WWDC 2025 Accessibility Highlights, Developer Forum Upgrades, and Custom Control Warnings
WWDC 2025: Accessibility, Labs, Developer Forums, Industry Trends, and Techopolis Updates
WWDC 2025 delivered a packed week of sessions, announcements, and learning opportunities that will shape the development landscape for the year ahead. As always, accessibility took center stage in many of the conversations.
This year’s sessions made it very clear that Apple remains committed to ensuring developers prioritize accessibility in every stage of app design and development. A recurring message throughout multiple talks was simple but firm: avoid custom controls. Apple emphasized that developers should rely on standard -provided controls in order to maintain compatibility across devices, benefit from platform-level updates, and most importantly, ensure accessibility for users. This guidance was reinforced repeatedly throughout the week, making it one of the strongest accessibility messages in recent years.
The WWDC Labs Experience
While the keynote often draws the most attention, the real value for many developers comes after — in the form of labs and technical sessions. These provide one-on-one access to Apple engineers and allow developers to get answers to complex or nuanced questions.
This year, the labs were conducted via Webex. Unfortunately, the experience was less than ideal. The platform itself had limitations in accessibility and interaction. Although Apple offered a system where developers could submit questions and vote on the most popular ones, none of my submitted questions were answered during the sessions. While it’s always great to have the opportunity to engage directly with engineers, the process left many questions unresolved. Hopefully, future iterations of WWDC will consider more inclusive and interactive ways to manage lab participation.
Major Upgrade: Developer Forums
Another important announcement was that the Apple Developer Forums will be receiving a significant upgrade. These forums have long served as a resource for developers to find answers, share knowledge, and collaborate with others in the community. The upcoming changes promise a modernized interface, improved search, and better integration with Apple’s documentation and technical staff. This could become an even more valuable resource for developers navigating new APIs and platform updates.
Accessibility Trends Observed
One of the standout trends this year is how deeply accessibility is being embedded into the overall product design philosophy at Apple. Accessibility is no longer treated as a secondary concern or an afterthought; instead, it’s being addressed upfront alongside functionality and performance.
Several sessions emphasized not only the use of system controls but also how to structure navigation, organize layouts, and provide rich accessibility metadata. The strong messaging encourages the entire developer community to see accessibility as a core design discipline, not just a compliance requirement.

Final Thoughts
WWDC 2025 has once again proven that the future of app development is increasingly accessibility-centered. As more companies embrace this mindset, users with disabilities stand to benefit from more inclusive digital experiences. It’s encouraging to see Apple continue to elevate accessibility as a design principle, not simply a feature.
There is much more work ahead, and at Techopolis Online Solutions, accessibility will continue to remain at the core of every project.
